Siberian Husky
If your husky doesn’t leave your cat alone, you might be wondering why and what you can do about it. This post explains several reasons why it does it and what it can do. So why is my husky obsessed with my cat? The possible reason is that it is due to a strong prey drive, is jealous, dominant, or just playing when it does. There are a few things to consider when trying to understand why your husky is obsessed with your cat. Depending on the cause, there are a few things you can do about it and what you should do about it.

Why Your Husky Is Crazy About Your Cat

Each of the different reasons your husky is obsessed with your cat probably comes with some clues. Below are a number of reasons why you don’t leave it alone and why you want to make them more likely.

it has a strong prey drive

Husky is a breed known for having a strong prey drive. This means that they have it in their nature to chase small things like cats, rabbits and even small dogs. This may be the reason you are obsessed with your cat. Since they are actually known to kill small animals, it is important to separate your husky and your cat until you are sure that you are trained enough to be around it. The more you will discuss how you can train it below.

it’s jealousy

Maybe the reason you’re obsessed with it is because you’re jealous of your cat. This is more likely when you’re paying more attention to your cat, and if you haven’t paid much attention to your husky lately, it will be crazy about it. In this case, training, exercise, and playing with it will help you pay your husky attention all day. But, when it does it, by paying more attention, it would be important not to reward it when you are obsessed with your cat.

it’s dominant

The reason it does, it could be dominant. This would be more likely especially if you do it in situations like they are eating. It helps to feed your husky and your cat separately because it is much more likely to be aggressive against your cat when it is eating.

it’s just playing

It might just be playing when your husky does it. This would be more likely if it were not obsessed with it in a positive way. But even if it’s just playing, it’s helpful to train your husky not to stick to it using the tips below.

Things to consider

Below you can consider a few things that will help you understand why your husky is doing it.

When your husky is crazy about your cat

It will help you think about the timing when your husky gets hooked on your cat. If your husky suddenly gets hooked on your cat, it’s more likely to be attributed to something like jealousy especially if you started it when you paid more attention to your cat. But if your cat is doing something like sleep that your husky usually does, there is also the possibility that your husky is dominant.

The age when you are crazy about your cat

You should also consider when your husky will be crazy about cats. If your husky gets hooked when you’re eating, it will help you eat separately, making it more likely that your husky is a resource guard. On the other hand, if it always does it, the cause is jealousy, because it has a strong prey drive or is simply playing.

Your Husky Era

If your husky is still a puppy, it is still more likely that you have not learned to leave your cat alone. If you’re a puppy, it’s very helpful to take the time to train your puppy to act the way you want to, just as an adult. If your husky is old, it is likely to be due to a combination of strong prey drive, jealousy and being dominant.

How to stop your husky from getting hooked on your cat

Below are a few things you can do to get your husky to stop bothering your cat.

separating them

Huskies are known to be aggressive against cats, so help isolate them as much as possible. This would be especially important when you are feeding them. This minimizes the risk of something bad happening.

train to be kind to a cat

There are three stages to train to leave the Husky alone. First, you’ll stay and then tell them to stay while it’s distracting and stay when the cat is around. I am writing about how to train your husky to stay and how to do it when you are distracted in the past here. After training to stay distracted, it will be time to introduce the cat slowly. You do this by telling them to stay in a husky and then startby putting the cat in the same room. Then, after your husky keeps your attention to you, you reward it for doing so. Repeat this process to get your husky to stay with the cat in the same room until you can easily get it to draw your attention. Once you’re good at it, you’ll keep telling them to stay, but you’ll reduce the amount of distance between your husky and your cat until you can get your husky to keep focusing on you even when the cat is nearby. Watch the video below to see how it’s done.

Train consistently

When training huskies, it’s important to match them. It is unlikely that you will get a drastic result in a single workout. However, if you match your training, you can get better results over weeks or months.
